A Solar drying tunnel has been constructed at Uganda Christian University. This is to be used for minimal processing of fruits and vegetables.
Uganda Christian University is maintaining a germplasm of 25 accessions of Nakati. These are grown in a screenhouse and are usually bagged to prevent any possibility of cross pollination thereby maintaining pure seed. Click here for more details.
Regional trials targeting variety release in Nakati (S. aethiopicum Shum) and Doodo (Amaranthus) have been established in Masaka, Luwero, Mukono, Kamuli and Buikwe. Uganda Christian University is currently Collaborating with NARO horticulture program – Namulonge towards variety release. Currently there is also a joint ongoing survey on pest and disease prevalence in African Indigenous vegetables
