To improve nutrition through increased awareness and vegetable consumption, the Department of Agriculture and Biological Sciences participated in the annual Uganda Farmers Federation Agricultural exhibition at Jinja show grounds. Farmers from Butiki-Kyekidde group were given space to display and sell their vegetable seeds. Under the Uganda Christian University stall, the Department of Agriculture and Biological Sciences exhibited vegetable innovations during the Uganda Farmers Federation Agricultural show at Jinja show grounds, July 12-21, 2019. Focus was on innovations on agronomic and management practices, seed production, postharvest handling and value addition of leafy green African indigenous vegetables (African eggplant, Amaranthus, spider plant, cowpea and okra). Value addition included extension of shelf life postharvest using a charcoal cooler, seed packaging (farmer seed was packed and displayed), making cookies out of vegetables and production of detoxifying juice.
