Mr. Fred Masika, one of the staff under the Department of Agricultural and Biological Sciences at Uganda Christian University carried out a study at the BecA-ILRI hub to contribute towards generation of molecular tools for more efficient breeding of the African eggplant (S. aethiopicum). He developed a linkage map using genotyping by sequencing.

He also developed a segregating population, isolated and quantified genomic DNA, and prepared libraries for sequencing.  This is aims at generating a high density linkage map vital in mapping important published agronomic traits in this plant.

He has raised segregating populations from inter and intra-specific crosses to develop recombinant inbred lines for transfer of important traits and for phenotypic characterization.
